LIVE WEBINAR: The timeliness of ozone in the Covid eraFor years, the Tuscan Stomatological Institute has been dealing with clinical and environmental applications of ozone. It is a natural gas with strong oxidizing power, exploited both for the sanitization of environments and surfaces, as well as for the clinical treatment of various pathologies. Ozone, like oxygen, is an elementary molecule, yet capable of activating a large number of vital processes. By actively controlling the ozone dosage, it is possible to appreciate its clinical effectiveness in various pathological or para-physiological conditions of the oral cavity (periodontal disorders, pathological lesions, traumatic injuries, healing of surgical wounds). Dental use only requires topical application in the form of gas, water or oil. The formidable force of ozone lies in the fact that, given that we have precise control over the dosage, we can obtain a multitude of biological effects with just one substance: anti-microbial, analgesic, oxygenating, anti-edemogenic, immunomodulating effect. The Institute published several papers on ozone and Every year we share these protocols with our Masters students. The current emergency situation empowers us as a group in finding a solution to our safe return to work. The first scientific evidence on SARS-CoV-2 tells us how this is sensitive to oxidation. High concentrations of ozone can be useful to eliminate SARS-CoV-2 in areas that are temporarily empty or to be repopulated (departments to be re-allocated), as well as all those areas that can stop for a few hours (supermarkets, pharmacies). Low ozone concentrations, delivered for a longer time or in smaller environments (surgeries, wards, medical offices), could slowly inactivate the virus present in the aerosol, probably reducing the number of infections. Last but not least, our Institute fully supports the will of the Italian Society of Oxygen-Ozone therapy which has valiantly offered to treat part of the patients with their protocols. In the case of respiratory infections, medical ozone cannot replace traditional therapy but improves the oxygenation of tissues subjected to chronic stress and recovers the balance of the parts of the immune system. Ozone is an inexpensive, safe, easy to manufacture technology.
